White Hot Summer

The mercury is rising and so is the humidity.  It must be summer in DC!

I love the look of an all white outfit for summer.  Look at how the celebrities below wear their summer whites.  You can pair white with black, brown, navy, metallic or nude accessories and you're coordinated for a summer outing!

Check out the outfits I replicated below.  Instead of using black accessories like Kat Sadler in the bottom left picture, I used brown accessories to soften the look.  Add in a pop of color with neon under that blazer and you're good to go!  While wearing all white is hot this summer, it is always a classic summer outfit for me.

What do you think of all-white in the summer?  Is it a do or would you rather not bother with the cleaning bills?  I think it's completely worth it!

Coral and Turqouoise summer

I may have mentioned before that turquoise and coral are two of my favorite summer colors and when combined they are so fresh and inviting.  Add in some neutral accessories and you are ready for a perfect summer day!  I love the idea of adding in a wide brim floppy hat to protect your face from the sun and provide extra shading.  It also looks great with this outfit.  So chic!  I absolutely love those brown Michael Kors sunglasses.  They're so flattering on most skin tones but the brown is also more subtle than black.  My favorite pair of sunglasses were a pair of Michael Kors ones that I got for just $80 at Nordstrom.  While I love some of the other designer brands out there, I prefer a great style that flatters my face first, despite who made it.  I've even found great sunglasses at Target!  While I do know people who go for the name over the actual design, I'm a firm believer in finding the style that suits a person before looking at labels.  You can definitely score great shades that won't cost a fortune just for a name!  Also if you love that French Connection Dress you can also find a similar French Connection dress at Bloomingdales with the same wood blocking pattern, but without the little tie in front.

Classic Summer Beauty: For the Love of Pinks and Coral

The cherry blossoms have come and gone, the trees are turning green and that can only mean that summer is right around the corner! Woo hoo!  I like to use spring to experiment and get my beauty regimen ready for the summer.  This year, the warmer months are bringing in new hues of blues, greens, yellows, golds and neons to add to the traditional bright summer colors.

As the lazy days of summer vacation are far behind and I now have to work through the summer, I like to stick with colors that compliment my tan skin tone and highlight that bronze summer glow.  So, while I experiment a bit with loud fashion-y summer colors each year, my particular favorite look for the summer is a classic for every year and withstands the colors in trend.

After a couple of years of experimenting, I've come to love pinks and corals, which come in a variety of shades that compliment any skin tone and come in bright enough hues to favor the summer months!

The minute the warm weather hits, I pull out my box of nail polish and sort through my summer staples.

My absolute favorite summer color is this orange-y coral polish by O.P.I. called cajun shrimp, located on the left in the middle above.  Here's a better look at that one!

Corals and pinks, especially when combined, just scream summer yet still are appropriate for work. Sticking to corals and pinks in your nails, lips, eyes and cheeks brings a natural summer glow to compliment any skin tone and creates a classic summer beauty look.  Don't forget the bronzer!

Jeans for All: Any Way You Want Them...

... That's the way you need them! Any way you want them! (insert guitar here). Yes, a slight riff on the Journey classic with a word changed here and there.

For some reason, a few people have asked me about jeans and what's in style today, and I have no idea why! Why me? I don't own all the newest trends but I will try to give an honest opinion on what I think is in (or still in).

When I think of jeans, I always recall a line from the movie Never Been Kissed with Drew Barrymore, in which she dresses up to pose as a high school student, even though she's...gasp!.. 25!,  to write an article for her big Chicago newspaper.   The only problem is, she was a total nerd in high school and mercilessly picked on by more socially adept students, which recalls flashbacks to her own awful experiences.  In one memorable scene, she was trying to talk to the popular girls in the cafeteria when she spilled chocolate milk on her white jeans and said in good humor, "That'll teach me not to wear white after Labor Day!"  (Side note: back in 1999, white jeans = not OK).  Prompting one of the mean popular girls to say "I don't think you're supposed to wear white jeans after 1983."  Which was followed by lots of popular girl giggling... (As if! Wait... wrong movie!)  Well, thankfully, it's been over 10 years since that movie came out (Wow!)  and, as you can see below, lil' miss popular snark is totally wrong!

After looking at what's available in stores this season I've come to the conclusion that you cannot go wrong with any style you like.  It appears as if all styles (skinny, flare, bootcut, straight leg, relaxed, boyfriend, trouser, wide leg) and rises (high, mid, low) are in.  Not to mention the vast array of washes (dark, light, acid and anything in between), colors, prints, leg lengths (cropped, ankle, regular) and distressing!  Shew!  That's a lot to absorb.  Not to mention all these great jeans are now available for every price point.  Hooray!

So go ahead and go wild with you favorite pair, be it the colored and cropped skinny or the classic dark washed bootcut.  Speaking of wild, how wild are those zebra print cropped jeans in the corner below? They are a bit out of my comfort zone, but I am really loving them!   Check out all the great styles for every budget I found on Polyvore.com and see for yourself.  These are only the tip of the iceberg.
