Fall 2012 Beauty Picks

With the cooler mornings and lower humidity kicking in this week I found myself thinking how fall is right around the corner.  I can't even believe that some kids are back in school already!

That got me thinking about my makeup for the fall.  While I still like to keep it basic and neutral for work, I do like to change up my every day nail colors and eye colors and add in a bit more glow to my face that won't come with all the sun exposure in the summer.  As you can see below, I've included a nude lip, brown and gold eye colors, which also make a great non-traditional smoky eye and black mascara.  I've also included basic powder based foundation, an all over face glow color by Bare Escentuals and a blush by Nars in a universally flattering color called, (gasp!) orgasm.

Also, adding in a heavier fragrance like a perfume, as opposed to a body spray, with a bit spicier scent is another way I like to change things up in the colder months.  My old favorite fragrance used to be Burburry Tender Touch, which had a hint of jasmine and white flower but smelled a bit more musky. Unfortunately they discontinued it. I guess me and my three friends loving it wasn't enough for it to stay around!  Since then I've explored other avenues but haven't settled on a favorite, although I really like the smell of Chanel Chance from the sample I have and I also switch between the Michael by Michael Kors perfume and Chanel No. 5, which was a Christmas present a couple of years ago, but the bottle is so big I haven't nearly finished it yet!

Some of my favorite products are also included below.  I love Bare Escentuals makeup, Nars bronzer and blush, Lancome Definicils mascara and Laura Mercier lip gloss.  Other brands I really love include Makeup Forever, MAC and Bobby Brown.

Do you transition into a fall beauty regimen?  Are there colors you like best in different seasons?

Wedding Style 2012

With wedding season in DC well into the swing of things I can't believe I haven't discussed bridal style!  I just love, love, loooooove wedding dresses!   I loved my own so much that I wanted to wear it to the grocery store or just anywhere to get a chance to wear it again!  It is such a shame we spend so much money on probably the most beautiful and extravagant dress we'll ever get to wear on the most important day of our lives and then, that's it! .... Finito! Sayonara! Adios! Fin! The End. Goodbye!

Well, I still get to live vicariously through the friends who are getting married.  ...And secretly plan my vow renewal... But that's not for years and years and years! *Sigh*

As much as you loved your dress, don't you wish you could wear another similarly extravagant dress again?  I guess Hollywood stars get to wear those kinds of dresses all the time so perhaps a wedding dress (and sometimes a marriage!  Ha!) isn't that big of a deal.

All kidding aside. I really found some gorgeous looks on Polyvore and I just had to share.  I hope you enjoy these! There is definitely a gown out there for anyone.  The problem is finding your one and only out of the bunch!   If you like what you see, click on the collage and get redirected to my Polyvore page where you can find the items in each.  Happy viewing.

Classic Summer Beauty: For the Love of Pinks and Coral

The cherry blossoms have come and gone, the trees are turning green and that can only mean that summer is right around the corner! Woo hoo!  I like to use spring to experiment and get my beauty regimen ready for the summer.  This year, the warmer months are bringing in new hues of blues, greens, yellows, golds and neons to add to the traditional bright summer colors.

As the lazy days of summer vacation are far behind and I now have to work through the summer, I like to stick with colors that compliment my tan skin tone and highlight that bronze summer glow.  So, while I experiment a bit with loud fashion-y summer colors each year, my particular favorite look for the summer is a classic for every year and withstands the colors in trend.

After a couple of years of experimenting, I've come to love pinks and corals, which come in a variety of shades that compliment any skin tone and come in bright enough hues to favor the summer months!

The minute the warm weather hits, I pull out my box of nail polish and sort through my summer staples.

My absolute favorite summer color is this orange-y coral polish by O.P.I. called cajun shrimp, located on the left in the middle above.  Here's a better look at that one!

Corals and pinks, especially when combined, just scream summer yet still are appropriate for work. Sticking to corals and pinks in your nails, lips, eyes and cheeks brings a natural summer glow to compliment any skin tone and creates a classic summer beauty look.  Don't forget the bronzer!

On Trend: Neon and Brights

It's official! The 80's are back in a big and bold way with neons and brights dominating summer styles.  I love the liveliness of these colors! Although I am a bit color shy myself, pairing only one colorful item with another neutral, I tried to play with pairing all neon and bright outfits with similarly bright colored accessories.  In reality, these looks are perhaps still a bit too bold for myself.  Were I adventurous enough to wear one of these colorful looks, I may tone the outfit down with adding a neutral shoe or bag or both.  However, seeing them put together with the accessories makes me think anyone can pull this off.  How great would these outfits look during the spring and summer months?! Any girl can put together something similar and stand out confidently, knowing she looks great and in the now.  Check out the bold looks below that I put together on Polyvore.com and see what you think.

On Trend: Neon and Brights

While I'm loving all these looks, my particular favorites are the green shoes by Poetic License and the blue wide leg pants.  Also that red cap sleeve Karen Millen top would be a perfect compliment to any work wardrobe!  *Sigh*  It'll be a few more weeks until we get that warm, summer-like weather back in D.C. (we had some unseasonably warm days in the 70's and 80's just this past March, and now it's gone back to early spring like weather in the 50's and 60's)  but I know what looks I'll be putting together in the mean time.

Oh, and for some reason the link to the purple button down blouse does not show up in the posting, so here's the info on that: T. Babaton Mel Top, available at http://aritzia.com
