Friday Favorites: Cravings for the Fall

I've been seeing and hearing more and more about fall gear in magazines and on television and, while I'm not ready to leave summer yet, I thought I'd check out what is out there for myself.

There are a lot of cute things in store for us in the upcoming months so it was really hard to narrow down my absolute favorites but with some effort, I've managed to make do. Below are pieces I would put into my fall wish-list.  The first and foremost being the purple and olive BCBG dress. The colors read fall but the style can be taken into a warmer season.  Also for fall, peplum is not going anywhere so I may actually have to get a peplum dress after all!  I also love the peplum blazer style so I had to include that in my collage as well.

Mustard and cobalt are also big colors in the upcoming season.  The cobalt blue skirt below reminds me of the one in the Zac Posen post I did earlier, this skirt even has a wavy texture like the one in his Fall 2012 collection, but for much less!  The mustard cross body bag would also be a great piece to add to a fall wardrobe if you're not looking to expand your clothing collection at this time.

Loafers and collar necklaces are also a big fall trend in the upcoming season.  I haven't tried either of these yet but I'm willing to work this look on an experimental basis.  The collar necklace is replacing those statement necklaces we are all so fond of but don't worry, I have the feeling the statement necklace isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

The purple/blue blouse is also something I haven't seen before but I'd love to get a few longer sleeved blouses for the fall.   This one just called out to me as being very chic and flattering on many body types. And that color is gorgeous!

Finally one of my favorite looks for fall is these maroon skinny jeans, flat boots and grey cozy top.  And yes, skinnies and colored jeans are going to stick around for a while.  I love tucking them into a cute pair of boots! These Tory Burch boots have been captivating me for weeks!  They are a bit pricey but I love the simple classic look of them.

Whatever looks you love for the upcoming season, pick your very best of the best and work it!  It doesn't take a whole new wardrobe to be fall ready and "in" for the season, just one great piece like a dress, coat, bag, shoe or piece of jewelry can take you there without breaking the bank! Pick out your own fall favs and rock them out with your own flare!

Affordable Sequin Mini Dresses with Sleeves

So who knew Comic Con was a forum for fashion and red carpets?  This year is the first time  I actually noticed that the stars from various comic book and science fiction related movies and television shows popped up on a red carpet and showed off how cute they could be! Some took a "futuristic" approach related to a sci-fi genre like leather (see Kate Beckensale) and architectural details (see Jessica Biel), but others came just to glam it up, no sci-fi fashion references anywhere.

Nina Dobrev just blew me away with all three of her looks but my favorite one (probably because I'm going through a "loving anything sequin" phase) was this:

I love, love, LOOOOOVE this cute dress.  The high crew style neckline and cap sleeves perfectly balance out the shorter hemline and the busy, flashy, sequin pattern and texture.  Not only does this dress, called Piper by Farah Khan which is a whopping $1225 and still available on her website, have sequins all over, there is a great tone on tone (gold on gold with some silver) pattern created out of sequins and bead work that's just incredible!  And those blue, open toe, Brian Atwood pumps are a great color pairing with the gold! Gold + Cobalt Blue = Stylish and Put Together.  That's a real formula by the way.  I also love how she simplifies her makeup by keeping it subtle and hair by wearing it straight and down.  The dress is flashy enough that accessories aren't necessary and the simple, straight, shiny hair is probably her best accessory anyway!

In looking for a way to re-create this look on Polyvore, I came across some pretty fantastic dresses with the similar cut and shape but it was hard to find ones with a similar pattern in a similar color AND which were not "breaking the bank" expensive.  Check out the dresses below!  Can you guess which one I picked to recreate Nina's look?  I'll be posting the winning dress and recreated look later this week!  That colorful Tahari hits a lot of the same notes as Nina's look, but so do a couple of others as well.

Also check out this great Sue Wong dress I forgot to include in the collage below.  While it's not covered in sequins there's a great shape to this dress and similar style with a pattern created in sequins and bead work.

Cameron Diaz Inspires with a Cowl Back Dress at the Met Gala 2012

I love, love, love what Cameron Diaz wore to the Met Gala recently!  Mainly because she used this as an opportunity to wear a dress that emphasizes her figure with a long-sleeve, form fitting silhouette that showcased her back, which, in my opinion is one of the most subtly sexy parts of a woman's body.  I also think a plunging back gown is flattering on almost everyone and is a unique and sultry way to grab attention without hiking up a hemline or lowering a neckline.

See how many options I found below!  I love that some of these dresses still have a high enough draped back (like the Alice and Olivia dress or the one from Asos) that you could still wear a bra with them.  Which is always a plus for me because I love to dress with ease!

But then again, I may have to add that pink Rachael Roy dress to my closet!  It's all "business in the front and party in the back" without invoking the negative references like the mullet, which shares that description!

On Trend: Fun With Color Blocking

Color blocking is everywhere this summer!  The best thing I like about this trend is that you can rock it as simple or as loud as you want.

Scope out these great new finds in all types of color combinations and figure flattering styles!  I love the fuchsia and purple Adrianna Papell dress.  I've also been eyeing that black, white and coral BCBG dress.  And I just love that coral, white and yellow dress from Mango.  The best thing about this trend is you can take a color blocked dress that's appropriate for work (i.e.  one that's at least longer than mid-thigh length, not too low cut and which doesn't show your bra) and also wear it out on the town or to a brunch date or gathering with your girlfriends.  All you need is the one right style that suits your own personal taste and lifestyle.  But that's up to you how you want to wear it and when.  There are numerous possibilities!
